Talk about a last minute design job… I got called last night to a restaurant that was supposed to have opened that morning. However, to the owner’s misfortune, nothing was ready. The cash register didn’t work, the liquor license didn’t come, and worse—there was no menu. His business partner was supposed to be in charge of fixing the register, and the man that was supposed to provide the menu and all the other print materials (business cards, signs, etc.) never showed.

My client called and needed a quick menu design. I understood–I mean, how could you run a restaurant without a menu? However, I didn’t realize that I only had four hours to design and print the menus!

I went home and got to work. I felt like a hibachi chef trying to fit style into time. And I did it successfully. Not to boast, but I was able to have the menus printed and delivered to the restaurant before 9 a.m. today. The owner was very happy and excited to see that I came through despite the short notice and tight budget, and still managed to give the restaurant some style.

Thanks to my hibachi-cooking approach, I got the job done. And now I’ve got a happy client that wants to work with me again.
