Of Montreal
Brandon and I went to Track 29 in Chattanooga to watch Kishi Bashi and Of Montreal. Amazing show! I love it when Kevin Barnes dances.
Ampient Music
I got to join my talented musician friend Dugan for the April Ampient at Old City Java last week. I played my iPad Animoog synth app and ran it through my Flashback pedal for added delays and effects. Making noise is fun!

A New Toy
I thought about treating myself to a spa afternoon yesterday but decided to treat myself to an effects pedal for my guitar instead. I picked up a TC Electronic Flashback Delay and Looper (with TonePrint!), and it’s awesome. I played with it all last night, and I woke up very early this morning because I couldn’t wait to play with it again. Just like a kid on Christmas Day.
(The sales guy at the music store said, “You know, you’re only the second woman that I’ve ever sold a delay to. That’s really cool.” He made me blush.)
At the Record Store
Decided to buy a few records from Lost and Found Records on Saturday after marching with Mia in the Mardi Growl Parade and eating a chimichanga lunch at Señor Taco. I picked up some sealed LPs, including The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds (remastered on 180 gram vinyl), Childish Gambino’s Camp (seeing Donald Glover in two weeks!), and Of Montreal’s Paralytic Stalks (seeing Of Montreal and Kishi Bashi in a month!).

Roxy Music Dance Party
I put “Siren” on the record player tonight and had a little dance party with my cat. We lumbered up and limbo’d down. Meow.
Mary Johnson Rockers
One of the highlights of my holiday was getting to see my old friend, Mary Johnson Rockers, who was back in town and performing live on WDVX Blue Plate Special the day after Christmas. Mary is an amazing singer and songwriter, and she is one of the kindest people I’ve ever known. We traveled through Peru together in 2001, and I’m lucky to have shared that experience with someone as remarkable and inspiring as her.

Found out about a record sale at Wild Honey Records in Knoxville (Bearden area) this past weekend and bought up several old LPs and two classic Christmas albums. I’ve had records on since Sunday, and can’t wait to get more vinyl on Thursday during their awesome Thanksgiving sale!
My New Melodica
Got a tip that there was a melodica on sale at Hot Horse in downtown Knoxville. So after today’s “Secret Ingredient” potluck, I drove down and bought myself a present. Well deserved, I might add. :)
The melodica came with a nifty carrying case, so I can take it everywhere! And as soon as I got home with my new instrument, I recorded myself playing a silly tune I made up. (As you listen, imagine yourself walking down a street in Montmartre or unwrapping a Pierrot Gourmand caramel lollipop.)
Can’t wait to write more melodies on this thing.
